I wouldn't consider it an alpha release, but apparently adobe only cares about your money, so instead of trying to bring this to a beta stage with some bug fixes , they repack it in the CS5 version and try to sell it to you again, same old garbage.
It crashes continuously on my Snow Leopard so I had to look around for alternatives and I've recently found a little gem called DrawIt from Bohemian Coding, it costs close to nothing and it is growing to become a valid alternative to fireworks.
